Klimatfrågan har hamnat lite grann i medieskugga, kanske delvis på grund av att en ovanligt kraftig La Niña har givit jorden en kall (nåja) vinter. Men faran är inte över – tvärtom.

Ett gäng av de tyngsta klimatforskarna med Nasas James Hansen i spetsen har publicerat ett paper där de argumenterar för att sikta på 350 ppm (miljondelar) koldioxid i atmosfären för att undvika en katastrofal utveckling. Det är inte helt lättillgängligt men mycket läsvärt, och det finns en skärpa i formuleringarna som är svår att vifta bort. Slutorden är :

The stakes, for all life on the planet, surpass those of any previous crisis. The greatest danger is continued ignorance and denial, which could make tragic consequences unavoidable.
